There are various health hazards associated with this kind
of work. The most frightening being that of contracting a
life threatening disease like HIV or Hepatitis B in the event
of a needle stick injury.
These diseases are not only life threatening but life altering
and have a major social stigma attached to them. Ironically,
if medical staff manage the waste well, the risk to exposure
of the medical waste worker decreases tremendously.
