The proposed National Healthcare Risk Waste Management Regulations have been released under Government Gazette 41601. Some interesting requirements included in the draft are - it is important that healthcare generators segregate their waste correctly at point of generation, HCRW must be packaged in containers which are colour coded and marked in accordance with SANS 10248-1 and a generator must ensure that HCRW is segregated, packaged, labelled and stored in accordance with regulations 5, 6, 7 and 8 before releasing the waste to the waste transporter.
